Mr. Walker-VanKuren will join the Yellow Breeches Quartet to perform Schumann’s Spanisches Liederspiel, Op. 74 and other solo works. This concert will also feature the award winning ensemble, Parkside Harmony, and Gettysburg Children’s Choir.
Arts on the Square presents the Harrisburg Choral Society and the Sanctuary Choir of Market Square Presbyterian Churchin “Choral Masterworks” on Sunday, May 21, at 4:00 p.m. at Market Square Church, 20 S. Second St., Harrisburg.
The 80-voice combined choirs will sing Vaughn Williams “Five Mystical Songs” and Beethoven’s “Mass in C,” accompanied by chamber orchestra and organ. Dr. Kyle Zeuch, music director of the Choral Society, will conduct. Tyler A. Canonico, minister of music at Market Square Church and artistic director of Arts on the Square, will be organist.
In “Five Mystical Songs,” English composer Ralph Vaughn Williams set to music poems from the 1633 collection The Temple: Sacred Poems by Welsh poet and Anglican priest George Herbert. Beethoven’s “Mass in C” was composed in 1807, utilizing heightened drama and orchestral and harmonic resources of the early 19th century.
Both works feature soloists, including Sarah Shafer, soprano; Laura Petravage, mezzo-soprano; Jonathan Walker-Vankuren, tenor; Ross Tamaccio, baritone; and Jordan Markham, bass.
The Christ Lutheran Chancel Choir will present Bob Chilcott’s mighty setting of the Gospel of St. John. Featuring Jonathan Walker-VanKuren as the Evangelist, this contemporary setting features solo narration, choral mediations and congregational hymns. Join us Palm Sunday evening as we center our hearts on Holy Week.
Mr. Walker-VanKuren will be performing on the Lebanon Valley College Voice Faculty Recital with his colleagues, Dr. Rebecca Crow Lister, Prof. Serene Heffner, and Dr. Kyle Zeuch.
Walker-VanKuren will be performing works by Gershwin, Lehar, Strauss, and more.
Lebanon Valley College Assistant Professor of Voice & Artist Teacher of Studio Voice and Music Theatre brings African American spirituals into the spotlight through this solo recital, Songs my mother taught me... Mr. Walker-VanKuren brings the stories behind these songs to life and focuses on their important place in the classical music repertoire. This recital will be in collaboration with Kevin Edward Gane at the piano.
Alumni and former students of Dr. Joseph Baunoch, Sam Weiser, Randall Frye, and Jonathan Walker-VanKuren will join together in recital to perform a myriad of operatic works for the recital entitled, Past Meets Future, an Indiana University of Pennsylvania Alumni Gala Recital.
This recital will be in collaboration with Drs. Henry Wong Doe and Matthew Baumer.

This recital is an afternoon of spirituals in celebration of Black History month and in collaboration with Dr. Gay Grosz of Centenary College.

Mr. Walker-VanKuren will sing the tenor solos in Handel’s Messiah with the Harrisburg Choral Society. This performance will be under the baton of Dr. Kyle Zeuch.
